About me

About me and my practice

I grew up in a in a forest and wine district in Rhineland Palatinate (Rheinland Pfalz), in Southwestern Germany. I lived midst nature, trees and forest animals, a rural life, that inspired me deeply. After graduating from our local high school, I moved to live and study in Karlsruhe, where I experienced city life for the first time. I started to get involved in the cultural scene, working mainly with photography and body painting. It was not until I had a photography professor from the US, that I challenged a long held believe for being horrible with foreign languages. I moved abroad to Kristiansand, Norway, where I fell in love with the peace and quiet of Scandinavian life. The strangeness of living in an unknown and a bit weird culture fascinated me and I wanted more. I decided to learn Norwegian, got accepted into University of Agder and worked in Kristiansand with a variety of projects and people also outside my student life. My studies ranged from sculpting to media art to relational aesthetics. I continued my work with body painting, video and photography until my MA, where I felt the urge to work in a live setting. The Body painting had shaped my focus on the skin. I was more and more curious in how the human psyche being might be shaped and shifted through our experience of skin, and how I could intervene in changing the skin. For the last three years, I have focussed on my skin as a site for performance art and temporary experiences. I use my body as sculpture and work with media and new media to sense, transform and shift it. I reflect on those inner shifts in front of a live audience or through creating objects that relate to this deep felt world under my skin. I find inspiration in connection between humans, non-humans, different cultures, philosophy and psychoanalysis. I came to see my work in the context of different languages and recently non-language. I need both, contemplating quiet and alone time and relationships to others, to create and show my work and move my practice forward
